Appleton Descendants Visit Little Waldingfield
It was a real pleasure welcoming Phil Appleton and his daughter Andrea to Little Waldingfield for afternoon tea at the School House, along with fellow LWHS trustees, followed by a semi guided tour of St Lawrence, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Phil has just moved to a small 6,000 population town in Nevada, famous as the home of Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, Red Rock Canyon National Park and Death Valley National Park, though as Phil advised: where he now lives is quiet, has a comfortable temperature year round and the beauty that deserts often possess – he clearly loves it there.
Phil descends from a long line of Appleton’s, which as a family date back to at least 1326, when William de Appleton of Suffolk died, though there are earlier records. The US history really commences with Samuel Appleton, who was born in the village in 1625 and emigrated to Ipswich New England in 1636 – see photo of the St Lawrence Appleton plaque. The impressive list of Appleton descendants unearthed by Phil via Ancestry reads as follows:
Thomas Appleton
Samuel J. Appleton
Lt. Oliver Appleton
Samuel Appleton
Thomas Appleton
Henry K. Appleton
Henry K. D. Appleton
Thomas L. Appleton
Harry L. Appleton
Ralph L. Appleton
Fred H. Appleton
Phil R. Appleton
Andrea M. Appleton (Phil’s daughter)
We hope to see them again in the future, along with further Appleton’s as yet unknown to us.
